The Chiefs took on the state’s top private school Friday with Jackson Academy fielding the nation’s top-ranked high school lineman.
The score was 52-0 when the final buzzer sounded.
“They are way too good,” said Magnolia Heights football coach Russ White. “But the score does not reflect who we are. I told them to put this one behind them and look on to the rest of our schedule.
“I don’t like that score, they don’t like that score, we made mistakes early and we ended up with bad field position most of the game,” Whiteside added. “They have a lot of Division One (college) prospects. It showed tonight.”
The Chiefs just found it hard to get going and trailed 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. Every time Jackson Academy touched the ball they scored.
The Raiders scored on their first two plays from offense.
They then blocked a MHS punt and scored from six-yards out.
Magnolia Heights went to the pass early, but the Chiefs’ quarterback was hurried and threw an interception, which the Raiders turned into a TD.
The Raider extra-point kicker didn’t miss a shot and even made a field goal to send the score to 38-0 as the first half ended.
Jackson Academy put together a long drive to open the third that resulted in a touchdown.
The Raiders scored again on another sustained drive led by their second team in the fourth quarter to send the score to 52-0.
Magnolia Heights travels to Starkville Academy on Friday, then has an open date before heading to Independence on Oct. 24.
The Chiefs finish the regular season at home against Bayou Academy, Oct. 31.
