Tate County ticket sales dipped in February for the first time since the Mississippi Lottery was introduced in November of 2019.
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) transferred $9,834,061 to the Lottery Proceeds Fund in the Mississippi State Treasury in February, bringing the total for the first seven months of the 2021 Fiscal Year to $84,907,290.
Locally, 15 retailers in Tate County sold $178,036 in lottery tickets in February, a sharp drop from the $333,449 that were purchased in January.
“With this month’s transfer to the State, we have exceeded the $80 million mark,” said MLC President Tom Shaheen. “By surpassing this benchmark, proceeds from the sale of lottery tickets for the remainder of FY21 will help fund educational programs in addition to funds already provided for road and bridge repair. This is a major milestone for the lottery, our retailers and all Mississippians.”
Under parameters established in the Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law, the first $80 million in net proceeds from the lottery goes to road and bridge repairs and upgrades across the state for 10 years.
Net proceeds over $80 million go to the Education Enhancement Fund.
