Some matchups still yet to be determined as of Friday morning
Although snow, ice and rain hampered the schedules of many north Mississippi soccer programs over the past month, the MHSAA has now officially unveiled the soccer postseason brackets.
Senatobia, Independence and Strayhorn will all compete in the playoff matches this weekend, with the Lady Warriors earning a slot in the Class 4A bracket, while Independence and Strayhorn will compete in the Class I bracket.
Strayhorn captured the Class I, Region 2 championship on Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory against Vardaman, improving to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in region play. However, the Lady Mustangs still have yet to find out who they will face as of press time, because the MHSAA still has yet to compile its bracket.
Unfortunately, the same issue can be said for the Strayhorn boys’ team. The Mustangs collected a 4-3 thriller against Vardaman on Thursday evening as well, but both a coin toss will be conducted to determine which of the two teams will earn the No. 1 seed from the region and the No. 2 seed.
As for the record itself, Strayhorn improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in region play.
Other parts of the Class I bracket have been finalized though, including matchups for Independence. The Lady Wildcats are slated to travel to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, while the IHS boys are slated to face Winona on the road as well. Both matches are tentatively scheduled for 5 P.M. start times.
Meanwhile, less chaos is in order for the Class 4A girls’ bracket. Senatobia will travel to Choctaw Central on Saturday, scheduled for a tentative starting time of 5 P.M.
