After a tough, low-scoring loss to region foe Clarksdale to start the season, the Senatobia Lady Warriors knew they needed to bounce back in a big way.
So far, SHS has done just that, embarking on a three-game winning streak, including a pair of wins this week against county rival Independence and on the road at Greenwood, pushing the Lady Warriors to two Region 3-4A victories.
In the 45-28 triumph against Independence last Tuesday, Senatobia led early and never looked back, building an eight-point advantage at the end of the opening quarter and a 27-19 halftime lead. Although the Lady Kats would hang around for most of the third period, SHS would put the game away for good with a 12-3 scoring run over the final eight minutes.
Things would come down to the final minute in a 41-40 road win at Greenwood. In a game that went back and forth the entire way, Senatobia turned the tables on a two-point halftime deficit to take a 29-24 advantage entering the final period of regulation.
Greenwood would rally back to take the lead in the fourth, but with a handful of second left on the clock, Angel Wright would drain a pair of free throws to win the game for the Lady Warriors, improving SHS to 2-1 in Region 3-4A.
Overall, Senatobia now stands at 6-8 overall. The Lady Warriors have just three home games remaining in the regular season, beginning with a battle against Gentry at 6 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18. SHS will then travel to Yazoo City on Friday, aiming for the clean sweep against the Lady Indians.

A 25-point outing from Jagger Young made all the difference for SHS on Tuesday, as the Warriors defeated county rival Independence in Senatobia.
As expected, both teams traded blows in the early stages of the rivalry showdown as Senatobia held a slight 15-13 advantage after the opening quarter. The Warriors were then able to push that to a seven-point lead at halftime, 30-23.
Sparked partially by a 13-point third quarter for Young, Senatobia pulled away from the Wildcats with a 25-9 scoring run that resulted in a big 55-32 lead entering the fourth quarter. IHS tried to counter with a 13-point output in the fourth, but the Warriors remained comfortably ahead and secured the victory.
In addition to Young’s huge outing, Carlous Robinson also posted 16 points, while Chase Echols provided nine points off the bench.
Unfortunately for Senatobia, the Warriors were unable to carry the momentum over to last Friday night’s battle at Greenwood, falling 70-57 to the Bulldogs. SHS led at halftime, only for Greenwood to rally for a 44-42 advantage entering the fourth quarter. From there, the Bulldogs outscored Senatobia 26-15 over the final eight minutes, denying the Warriors a crucial road win.
With the loss, Senatobia now sits at 5-12 overall and remains winless in region competition at 0-3. The Warriors will host Gentry on Tuesday, January 18 before traveling to Yazoo City on Friday.
Jan. 14 – Independence vs. Rosa Fort, CANCELED
A Region 2-3A battle between Independence and Rosa Fort scheduled for last Friday was canceled. No official reason was given for the cancellation and there is no official word if the game will be made up.
On the girls’ side, Independence sits at 9-11 overall and 1-1 against region competition. For the boys, Independence is 3-11 on the season and 0-2 in Region 2-3A.
Currently, the Wildcats are slated to travel to Byhalia on Tuesday, Jan. 18 before hosting Rosa Fort on Friday, Jan. 21.
Jan. 11 – (G) Myrtle 68, Strayhorn 33 Jan. 11 – (B) Myrtle 76, Strayhorn 57
Strayhorn found itself in a 24-0 hole after one quarter of play and were never able to recover, as the Lady Mustangs dropped a 68-33 meeting to region foe Myrtle early last week.
In the boys’ loss to Myrtle, the Mustangs trailed 22-14 at the end of the first period and trailed 41-30 at halftime. Though Strayhorn continued to hang around throughout the second half, the Mustangs were unable to make much of a dent in the Hawks’ lead, falling to 0-10 on the season.
With the girls’ loss, Strayhorn also dropped to 1-6 overall. The two teams are scheduled to host M.S. Palmer on Tuesday, before traveling to Jumpertown on Friday evening.
