With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, a handful of local basketball squads now prepare for the ultimate test of survival – the playoffs.
While this year’s field is a little lighter than years past, the ladies of Senatobia and Independence are gearing up for what each team hopes to be a deep run in the postseason.
As the No. 3 seed out of Region 3-4A, Senatobia travelled to Kosciusko on Monday, Feb. 14. The Lady Warriors entered the contest with a 10-11 overall record and faced a Lady Whippets squad (22-8), the No. 2 seed from Region 4-4A.
If Senatobia is victorious, the Lady Warriors will take on the winner of the Pontotoc-Itawamba Agricultural matchup on Friday, Feb. 18.
Meanwhile, Region 2-3A runner-up Independence will hosted Alcorn Central on Monday. Alcorn Central (9-15) entered the game as the No. 3 seed from Region 1-3A, while the Lady Kats carried a record of 14-12.
Should Independence win, the Lady Kats will face the winner of Amanda Elzy and Noxubee County on Friday, Feb. 18.
