CHARLOTTE - After posting one of the most impressive seasons by a receiver in the nation, Northwest receiver D.T. Sheffield has officially earned NJCAA Division I All-American accolades, the organization announced late Monday afternoon.
Sheffield was the only Ranger selected for All-American honors and was one of only five MACCC athletes chosen. The Corinth native is the first NJCAA All-American selection in two seasons for Northwest (Ashton Gist and Robert Hentz II; 2019) and the first Ranger receiver chosen for NJCAA All-American honors since Lance Ray in 2011.
Sheffield was one of only three receivers in the nation to average 90 or more yards per game this season, as his 90.8 average ranked third nationally. He also posted 1,089 receiving yards on 57 catches, joining Malik Benson (Hutchinson) as the only other receiver to finish with 1,000 yards this season. Sheffield's 57 receptions were also tied for the most in the NJCAA Division I ranks, joining Itawamba's Shamar Sandgren.
Additionally, Sheffield found the end zone 10 times in 2021, finishing in a four-way tie for fourth and one of only seven receivers to earn 10 or more receiving touchdowns. He ends his Northwest career with 1,447 receiving yards and now ranks fourth in program history for most receiving yards in a season.
Northwest finished the 2021 season with a 9-3 overall record and claimed back-to-back MACCC championships. The Rangers were also one of four teams to compete in the inaugural NJCAA Division I Football Playoff, falling in the semifinals to eventual national champion New Mexico Military Institute.
