Independence picked up its first win of the season in thrilling fashion last Friday, as the Lady Wildcats earned a shootout win on the road at South Panola, defeating the Lady Tigers with four scores during the winner-take-all shootout.
Both teams were held scoreless in regulation and again in overtime, forcing the thrilling conclusion and improving Independence to 1-3 on the season.
Next up for Independence will be a rivalry battle against Strayhorn on Tuesday, January 11 and a road contest at Byhalia on Thursday, January 13.

In a rare Saturday soccer doubleheader, Magnolia Heights earned an even split in the Greenville-St. Joe’s Tournament over the weekend, following up a 5-1 loss to St. Aloysius with a 6-1 victory against the host Fighting Irish.
Colt Crabtree and Will Shemwell led the way with two goals apiece in the victory, while Logan Lipscomb and Jack Price followed with one score each. The split moved MHS to 3-6-1 on the season, as the Chiefs have now won three of the last four contests.
Magnolia Heights returns to the home pitch on Thursday, Jan. 13 against Delta Streets Academy (5:30 P.M.), before traveling to Heritage Academy on Saturday for a 1 P.M. kickoff.
