Dear Editor,
My name is Jean Noel. I went before the board this morning to argue my case: I have a house in Coldwater (for sale, empty) for which I made a visit at the garbage collection office a few weeks ago to ask them to take their garbage can back and terminate the service. They refused because I didn't terminate the utilities service. I didn't because I must keep the house heated in order to keep the pipes from bursting in this freezing weather and to add comfort and light for the candidate buyers visiting on occasion.
I told the board that I did not want, need or use the service, I had with me the garbage collection bills that I pay in Olive Branch where I live now. But there was no arguing with them "Its the policy" in other words, take it or else.
I can understand that if someone lives there, the garbage collection has to be paid for, or it could lead to abuse. But an empty house does not generate garbage, therefore it is in my view an extorsion, charging customers for a non service.
The point here is not the amount of the fees, it's the principle.
Thank you for reading me.
Best regards,
Jean Noel Coldwater, MS
