To the Editor,
Greetings friends of the O.B. McClinton Foundation Scholarship Fund! As we reflect on past years, we want to acknowledge that the generous contributions from caring friends like you have enabled us to continue our mission of providing a hopeful and brighter future for youth and adults of the Sen- atobia community and surrounding areas of North Mississippi. As a thank you to our supporters and friends, the 2021 scholarship recipients wish to share their deepest gratitude and an update on their progressing college careers.
Jordan Buck is a second semester Sophomore at Alcorn State University. Last semester, Jordan re- ceived an “A” in each of her courses and now has a 3.81 GPA. Jordan stated: “I am involved on campus as the 1st Vice President of my class, Campus Ambassador, and much more. I am also a recipi- ent of the SAAS Scholarship that pays a large portion of my tuition given by the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. I want to thank The O.B. McClinton Foundation for helping me to be debt free each school year. School is going great so far, and I am hoping for a wonderful spring semester.”
Johnathan Williams, an O.B. McClinton Foundation Scholarship Recipient, also elaborated on his first year in college. “My first year at the University of Mississippi has been an awesome one! I’ve met some great people and have been a part of several new and exciting experiences. Each day I’m learn- ing new things. I can’t wait to see what unfolds minute by minute. I am so thankful.”
Additionally, Amber McCaskill is currently enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College. She states that her freshman year has been enjoyable. “I presently serve as a Northwest Ranger recruiter. I love talking to other students and encouraging them to join the Ranger family.” Amber will be graduating this May. After graduation, she will enroll at the University of Mississippi to complete the bachelor’s degree program. After completing the bachelor’s degree program, she will enter the University of Mississippi’s “3+3 Law School” program. “I am very grateful for the O.B. McClinton Foundation Scholarship that I received. I am glad that I am able to represent the foundation in a positive manner.”
Finally, Briana McClinton’s Fall 2021 semester at the University of Arkansas has been one to remember. Briana stated: “It was my first semester experiencing the college life. I was able to attend my first lab class. I was extremely nervous because I did not know how to use the equipment. Learning about lab equipment was done online during my freshman year, so working hands-on worried me. However, with the help of my lab partner, I was able to complete my experiments successfully. I also attended every football game at Razorback Stadium and even participated in storming the field after we de- feated Texas Longhorns. I relive that moment every day.
While it was fun at the moment, I realized later, that I injured my knee. For two weeks, I had to walk around with a knee brace and crutches. If you asked if I would do it all again, the answer would be a definite yes. Interacting with more people and living a normal college life is certainly a dream come true. I wouldn't have been able to have a successful year if it wasn't for the O.B. McClinton Foundation. The scholarship helped pay for my fall tuition, securing my courses for the spring. Now I am one step closer to completing my bachelor's degree.”
Thanks for your contentious support!
