An unexpected winter weather break that spanned nearly two weeks did little to faze the Independence Lady Kats.
Taking the court last Wednesday for the first time since January 12, coach Jerome Martin’s squad stepped back into Region 2-3A competition with a 56-32 triumph against Holly Springs, before delivering a 10-point win against Coahoma County the next day, 61-51.
With both victories, Independence moved to 19-4 overall and 6-0 in the region standings. The Lady Kats will close out the regular season this week, facing Coahoma County on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and rival North Panola on Friday, February 2 at 6 P.M.

Independence dropped a pair of tough losses in boys’ competition, including a defensive-centered battle against Coahoma County last Thursday.
With the losses, the Wildcats’ losing streak moves to three games, as the team’s overall record has dipped to 10-10 and 1-5 in Region 2-3A play.
Independence will close out the regular season against Coahoma County on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and North Panola on Friday, Feb. 2. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 tipoffs.

With Friday’s split against North Pontotoc, the Senatobia Lady Warriors’ record dropped to 12-4 on the season and 3-2 in region play, as the SHS boys improved to 12-5 overall and 2-3 in Region 2-4A.
Senatobia is scheduled to close out the regular season this week, with a packed slate of three games. The action begins Monday at South Pontotoc and Tuesday at Byhalia, before hosting BHS on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 P.M. The final game, a non-region contest against Oxford, has been canceled.
