The internet is buzzing with the news that most of us were expecting after the first Jurassic Park movie was released. Extinct animals are literally making a "comeback."
Scientists are calling it De-extinction. It is the process of bringing back to life an extinct animal species.
What began as an idea in a great science fiction blockbuster movie, became a reality in the making as scientists started to try and "bring back to life" an extinct animal by using prehistoric DNA. Recent developments in genetic engineering, cloning, and genome sequencing, have made it possible to "resurrect" an animal that has been dead for thousands of years.
Dolly the Sheep was the first animal to be cloned in 1996. Since that time, clones have been made of camels, ferrets, and even cows. As science has progressed and man has stretched the boundaries of what can be done through science, they have discovered that it is possible to take extracted DNA from a species, piece it together with its closest relative, and recreate an extinct animal.
Colossal Biosciences, the company that led the process, claimed to have birthed three Dire Wolf cubs that went extinct at the end of the Ice Age. The only problem is, that the wording used to describe what has been done is quite misleading.
The De-extinction is more of a grey wolf with the appearance of a fully white Dire Wolf, rather than an exact Dire Wolf itself. While portions of the DNA were used to recreate the look of a long gone species, the full DNA is not a Dire Wolf, but merely an altered Grey Wolf. The resurrection of the Dire Wolf is not what it appears to be.
Maybe the scientists should leave the creation of life and resurrecting from the dead up to Jesus!
The resurrection of Jesus is so much more than just a story. It is our Hope. It is our hope for salvation. It is our hope for eternity. And, while some cast a light of suspicion upon His resurrection, there is far more evidence that Jesus was once dead and buried, and then was brought back to life on the third day.
Biblical and historical accounts confirm and agree. Jesus predicted His death and resurrection. (Mark 8:31) His tomb was found empty and those who guarded it gave witness. (Matthew 28:11-15) He appeared before thousands following His resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:6 ) And those who followed Him were willing to die for that truth.
Being a follower of Jesus means that we put our faith in the word of God and believe that He was able to raise His son from the dead.
There was no extracting DNA. There was no genetic engineering. There was no cloning. There was just God, in all His mighty power, calling His son back to life. T
hat is a truth that we can believe!
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." (1 Peter 1:3) Say it with me... "Jesus Lives!"
