Commencement ceremonies are set for all local high schools later this month and graduates will receive diplomas in a more traditional manner compared to last year when the COVID-19 pandemic forced officials in both districts to make changes.
Senatobia High School will hold its graduation Thursday, May 20, at 6 p.m., inside Howard Coliseum on the Northwest Mississippi Community College campus. Senior Macy Stevens will deliver the Valedictorian address, while Olivia Cook will provide remarks as Salutatorian.
Jeff Underwood, Director of School Operations for the Senatobia Municipal School District said limited seating is available for the ceremony and each graduate is being granted an allotment of tickets.
“The senior students were given an option (for graduation) and that was the overwhelming response,” Underwood said.
Last year, Senatobia conducted individual ceremonies for approximately 110 seniors and a limited number of family members for each inside the auditorium on the middle school campus.
The Tate County School District will hold ceremonies for all three of its high schools at Howard Coliseum at Northwest Mississippi Community College on Saturday, May 22.
The schedule includes Coldwater at 10 a.m., Strayhorn at 1 p.m., and Independence at 4 p.m.
Alee Dixon, Superintendent of Tate County Schools, said all three graduations would be traditional and there is not a limit on the number of family members that can attend.
Schools in Tate County held separate drive-in ceremonies last year.
