A Tate County man will spend the next several years in prison for violating terms of his probation.
Documents from Tate County Circuit Court show Jarrod Robert Gant, 36, of Sarah, had his probation revoked and was ordered to serve 15 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) on a charge of fondling.
Gant was originally sentenced to 15 years suspended and five years of supervised probation in August 2021 following an indictment by the Tate County Grand Jury.
Investigator Destin Johnson from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office told the Tate Record Gant was taken into custody Wednesday, Jan. 18, and detained under a $180,000 bond after being charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of child pornography, felon in possession of a weapon and failure to register as a sex offender.
Johnson said TCSO obtained a search warrant to investigate the possession of controlled substance charge which led authorities to a Tate County address where Gant was living, but the residence was not the same one listed on the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry.
Johnson said investigators obtained another search warrant to conduct a data extraction from Gant’s cell phone and discovered child pornography.
All aforementioned charges were violations of Gant’s terms of probation, according to court documents.
