The qualifying period for local elections ended Friday, Sept. 6, with no surprise candidates throwing a hat in the ring.
The general election featuring the race for president of the United States takes place Tuesday, Nov. 5, when polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the usual county voting precincts.

There are nine candidates listed on the November ballot for President and Vice President. In addition to the two major candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties, candidates representing the Libertarian, Green, Mississippi Constitution, and four independent candidates are listed.
The at-large spot on the board of trustees for the Senatobia Municipal School District is on the ballot and incumbent and current school board president Brant Kairit is running unopposed for a fourth term after zero challengers turned in qualifying paperwork.
The Senatobia school board at-large position is the only one in which the public chooses the representative. The other four are appointed. Voters who live outside the city limits but reside inside the Senatobia school district elect the at-large candidate.
Three of the five election commissioner spots also appear on the ballot and all three incumbents are unopposed including: Dolores B. Wooten, District I; Joycelynn S. Dowl, District 3: and Ellis Blount, District 5.
