A local man was taken into custody in connection with striking a deputy from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain Lisa Sanders identified the suspect as Robert E. Reed, 23, of Senatobia, who was charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, disobeying a lawful order and resisting arrest.
Reed was detained at the Tate County Jail under a $2,000 bond set by Judge Carolyn Shead during his initial appearance in justice court Thursday, May 25. Reed’s preliminary hearing is set for Thursday, June 1.
Sanders said deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Willie Hibbler Road on Tuesday, May 23, at approximately 8:21 p.m., after a disturbance was reported. A deputy was assaulted after arriving at the residence and the suspect, identified as Reed, fled the scene, according to Sanders.
With assistance from the Senatobia Police Department, Reed was apprehended nearly an hour later in an area on Willie Hibbler Road.
Sanders said the deputy suffered minor injuries and was released shortly after being treated.
