Suspect surrenders to authorities
An elderly Tate County man is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the shooting death of his daughter, according to local law enforcement officials.
Sheriff Brad Lance identified the man as Forrest J. Mouton, 71, of Sarah, who is being held without bond at the Tate County Jail.
Lance said dispatchers from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office received a call Monday, Aug. 30, at approximately 3:55 p.m., from the Panola County Sheriff’s Office stating an individual reported deputies and a coroner were needed on Tate-Panola Road because he (the caller) had shot his daughter.
TCSO dispatchers eventually got the caller on the line and were able to obtain information regarding the incident including the exact address at 8427 Tate-Panola Road in southwestern Tate County. Mouton immediately surrendered after the first deputy arrived on scene, according to Lance.
Deputies entered the home and discovered a female dead from a gunshot wound. Lance identified the subject as Carol Mouton Rayam, 44, of Senatobia. He said another adult female relative was inside the residence, but she was not physically injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Tate County Sheriff’s Office.
