Teams were then ranked from highest to lowest based on their average monthly search volume across the country. The data also revealed which teams were the most searched-for in each state.
The most popular professional sports teams based on online searches in other southern states are Atlanta Braves in Alabama; Dallas Cowboys in Arkansas; Miami Heat in Florida; Atlanta Braves in Georgia; New Orleans Saints in Louisiana; Atlanta Braves in South Carolina; and Tennessee Titans in Tennessee.
The Dallas Cowboys were also crowned the most popular sports team in America in 2023 with a nationwide average monthly search volume of 7,189,167, while the NBA’s Miami Heat ranked second with than 4.25 million monthly searches.
In addition, the study also found that football is the most popular sport in the country, amassing an average monthly search volume of 57,519,250. That figure is more than 21 million higher than the next most popular sport baseball (35,206,042). Basketball, ice hockey and soccer were the next three most popular sports.
The five most popular sports teams in America based on searches are the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Heat, Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Braves and Golden State Warriors.
