A new weight restriction has been placed on a bridge in extreme western Tate County.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) imposed a new limit on a State Route 3 bridge following a recent routine inspection by district bridge personnel.
A statement from MDOT stated conditions warranting a load restriction were documented during the inspection and the load limit on Bridge No. 183.8 on State Route 3 was modified to a gross weight of five tons.
Crews have employed changeable message boards to inform the public of the new weight stipulation. MDOT said heavy truck traffic will be restricted from using the bridge until repairs are made.
MDOT issues alert for I-55
The Mississippi Department of Transportation has issued a traffic advisory for the construction zone on Interstate 55 where the Hickahala Bridge replacement project is taking place.
A statement from MDOT said the southbound lanes of I-55 just north of the main Senatobia interchange were moved Monday, Oct. 4, from the existing southbound lanes onto the formerly used northbound lanes and bridges. Drivers are urged to slow down and be on high alert for roadside crews in the area.
