On Friday, Dec. 1, members of the Cosmopolitan Club and guests gathered at the historic Heflin House in Sardis for a Holiday Luncheon with Mrs. John Spencer as hostess.
After a cheerful time of fellowship, a typically delicious meal prepared by the ladies of Heflin House was enjoyed. And then there was a surprise visit from the Williams Cousins, young singers and descendants of the late Mary McGinnis Williams, Mrs. E.M.”Bill”, a club member in the 1940s and 1950s, and all of whom were relatives of the hostess. The children brought brief seasonal greetings in song.
Ms. Debbie Perkins, program leader, welcomed club members and about a dozen guests. The devotional was shared by Mrs. Jimmy Tindall who based her meditation on the lyrics of the songs just heard from the Cousins. Christmas was the theme for the program and Ms. Perkins began by sharing a quote from Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, “I truly believe that if we keep telling the Christmas story, singing the Christmas songs, and living the Christmas spirit, we can bring joy and happiness and peace to this world.”
The Cosmopolitan Club’s resident pianist Mrs. Johnny James (Bonnie), an accomplished musician who frequently plays the piano at the Senatobia First Methodist Church where she is a choir member and is a former accompanist for United Voices of Praise, earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Guidance and Personnel Management from Western Illinois University. Bonnie shared her talent by entertaining the group salon-style with seasonal selections “Yuletide Echoes, O Holy Night and Mary, Did You Know?” She delighted her listeners as usual.
Cosmopolitan Club President Ms. Eleanor Cahill next invited club members to introduce their guests and then gave all the opportunity to contribute to the Cosmopolitan Club’s LLL (Ladies Loving Ladies) Project by which cosmetology services are provided for a few ladies who live at Senatobia Healthcare and Rehab. Ms. Cahill thanked the hostess Mrs. Spencer and the Heflin House ladies for a lovely meeting before the meeting was adjourned.
A grand time was had by all!
