Although the father of one Tate County teenager is no longer with her, his memory is never far from her heart.
Marshyski Danyell Harmon, a senior at Independence High School, recently attended her high school prom like many teens across the nation; however, Harmon wanted to also do a very special photo shoot. Dressed in her finest formal wear, Harmon included her father’s boots as a loving gesture toward his memory.
“Since my dad’s passing, I always try to keep his legacy alive by including him in everything I do since his death,” said Harmon.
Harmon’s father passed away from a heart attack when she was only nine years old.
She describes herself as a country girl from Independence, and a horse was included in some of the photos with her father’s boots. At IHS, Harmon loves cheering, basketball and is a passionate learner.
“I love taking a deeper dive by seeking additional learning opportunities,” she said. “I find business and entrepreneurship interesting.”
When she finished high school, Harmon has set her sights on an unusual and exciting path.
“This may sound different,” she said. “But I want to be a big truck 18-wheeler driver when I finish college in business.”
Harmon said she has had a lot of support along the way and has special gratitude for those who helped her.
“I would like to acknowledge Mark Jamison, Coach Jerome Martin, and Derico Mosley for stepping in as father figures in my life since the passing of my father,” said Harmon. “I made it Dad! I made it. I'm on my way.”
