Check your mailbox for property tax cards
Death and taxes are always a certainty, and this year is no different.
Property owners in Tate County should have received, or will soon, a tax card in the mail from the tax assessor/collector’s office. The property tax cards inform owners of taxes they owe the county due to assessed value of the property and current millage rate.
The Tate County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office mailed out the tax cards at the beginning of December, except for those with mobile homes which will go out Jan. 1, 2025. Property owners have until February to pay before a penalty of 0.5% per month is added to any delinquent taxes.
On the last Monday in August, any remaining unpaid taxes will be sold in the county's tax sale. The purpose of the tax sale is to ensure the county receives the money it needs to operate each year, even if some owners have not yet paid their due.
