A man convicted in 2020 in connection with an infant’s death in Tate County is headed back to prison.
Documents from Tate County Circuit Court revealed Cody Scott Brown, 32, of Senatobia, had his probation revoked to serve 10 years in Mississippi Department of Corrections on an original charge of manslaughter.
Court records show Brown broke the terms of his probation after he was charged with possession of controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia in June 2023.
Brown and the infant’s mother, McKenzie Margarite Flanigan Latimer, 27, of Olive Branch were each sentenced to serve six years and 183 days in MDOC, with 723 days of time served, and 10 years post-release supervision after pleading guilty to manslaughter in Tate County Circuit Court in May 2020.
Both Brown and Latimer, who had conspiracy charges remanded to the file, were indicted by the Tate County Grand Jury in October of 2018 when original charges of felony child abuse were upgraded to capital murder, according to court documents.
Brown served four years and three months of his sentence before he was released from MDOC in October 2022 and placed under probation. Latimer is currently incarcerated at Delta Correctional Facility in Greenwood with a tentative release date in January 2024.
A report from the Tate County Sheriff’s Office stated Brown and Latimer were arrested Dec. 31, 2017, after three-month old Albree Lynn Latimer was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
According to the report, the child sustained severe head trauma. The infant eventually died in September of 2018 as result of her injuries, 17 days after her first birthday.
