A fast-moving storm left 1,000 Tate Countians without power last night, according to Entergy Customer Service Manager George Cossar.

Outside of the 1,000, Cossar said Hernando, Senatobia, Como, Sardis, Independence, and Coldwater lost power for 55 seconds after a transmission line went out.

According to Cossar, there were 56 lightning strikes within 15 minutes of the outage.

Cossar said contract crews are assisting with the outages, as well as Entergy servicemen from Grenada and the DeSoto County area.

Cossar said Entergy hoped to have all power restored by 10 p.m. tonight.

Senatobia Fire Chief Gary Copeland reported a fair amount of fallen trees blocking roadways after the storm, including trees on Heard, Tate, Gilmore, Marvin, Sycamore, and Scott Street, as well as a fallen tree blocking a portion of the interstate.

Copeland said there were no injuries caused by the weather.
